Sallots
or Small Red Onions are reddish-purple in colour. They are much smaller
(2 cm. in diameter) than the white ones but have a stronger odour and
flavour. They are used as a flavouring in salads e.g. Ground Chicken Salad
- Laab Gai, Cellophane Noodles Salad - Yam Wunsen and a major ingredient
for curry pastes. They are also added in some desserts e.g. Baked Mung
Bean Cake - Kanom Maw Gaeng.
